Plankton: According to the German zoologist Victor Hensen (1835-1924), plankton is a polyphyletic group of generally unicellular organisms living in fresh, brackish and salt water, most often in suspension and apparently passively: gametes, larvae, unfit animals to fight against the current (small planktonic crustaceans, siphonophores and jellyfish), plants and microscopic algae.
