Korean New Year Seollal : The feast of Seollal (hangeul: 설날, spelled "Seolnal" but pronounced Seollal), marking the entry into the Chinese Calendar (on a date that varies depending on the year, but always between January 21 and February 20) , is one of principales holidays traditional Korean (with Chuseok), whose celebration continued, despite the ban, under the Japanese occupation of Korea.
Linked to the cult of ancestors, Seollal lasts three days: that of new Year, the day before and the next day.
Koreans visit their families in their native region: having donned the traditional Korean garb, the hanbok, they bow (jeol) to their parents as a sign of respect. The elders then pronounce the “wishes for happiness”, and give the children money as a reward for the jeol. The families then go to the graves of their ancestors.
