banana : Banania is a French brand of chocolate en powder, to the recipe imported at the beginning of the XNUMXth century from Central America.
The historic slogan of the brand was until 1977 " There is good Banania »Uttered by a Senegalese infantryman. According to legend, this slogan would come from a Senegalese infantryman wounded in the forehead and hired in the factory of Courbevoie. Tasting the product, he would have declared in "moi ya dit": "y'a bon". Since the 1970s, the slogan has been criticized more and more as the bearer of the racist stereotypes which nourished the familiar caricature of the black of the time (silly smile, friends of children therefore grown up and incapable of expressing themselves correctly in a French language which he must wield) and potential symbol of colonialism (just like his mascot "L'ami Y'a bon").
The Movement against Racism and for Friendship between Peoples (mrap) obtained on May 19, 2011 before the Court of Appeal of Versailles that Nutrimaine, the company that owns the Banania brand, stop the sale of products bearing the slogan "Y'a bon".
