Nypa (palm): The nypa (or nipa) is a genus of plants in the Arecaceae (palm) family.
It only has one current species: Nypa fruticans (*) and several fossil species.
It's a very old genre. We have thus found remains of fossilized mangrove palm pollen which are estimated to be 70 million years old.
The genus Nypa is the only representative of the Nypoideae subfamily.
