Joel (fish): The Joel (also called Atherine) is a species of seawater fish of the Atherinidae family (Scientific name: Atherina boyeri) found in the Atlantic Ocean (from the coast of Portugal to 'at the height of Mauritania), in the Mediterranean, in the Black Sea and in the Caspian.
Etymology: Its scientific name, boyeri, was given to it in honor of Guillaume Boyer, naturalist, poet, mathematician and doctor from Nice, who died around 1355.
