Etymology of the word "dolma": The origin of the name dolma is disputed. The word dolma, whose use dates from the end of the XNUMXth century, is often associated with the Turkish verb doldurmak (“to fill”) or dolmak (“to be filled”) and with the Ottoman Turkish word طولمه (tuallamuh) which literally designates “something thing that is stuffed”. Armenian linguists claim that the word derives from the Urartian word toli, which means "vine leaf", thus tracing the term to the kingdom of Urartu dating from the XNUMXth and XNUMXth century AD.
