The verb “to drown” has several meanings:
I Transitive verb:
1. To kill, to kill by asphyxiation by immersion in liquid.
Drowning kittens.
Proverbial phrase: Who wants to drown his dog accuses him of rabies: we judge severely what we have decided to suppress, to destroy.
To drown the fish: (fishing) to walk the fish once hooked by raising its head out of the water at times to exhaust it.
