Shell: v.tr. To shell is to pull from its husk, to peel, to shell. This operation is called shelling, generally by pressing the thumb on the split in the pod (or pod).
Shelled beans are to be eaten in grains (as opposed to green beans).
To shell is to remove seeds from their pod: peas, broad beans, beans, etc.
To shell is to remove the shell, the envelope of a fruit, a vegetable: corn, roasted chestnuts, chestnuts, peanuts...
