Polychlorinated biphenyls: Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), also called polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), or even sometimes incorrectly called "pyralenes" (from the trade name of a Monsanto product based on PCBs formerly widely used in Europe in transformers) form a family of 209 organochlorine aromatic compounds derived from biphenyl.
They are industrially synthesized, and chemically close to polychloroterphenyls, polychlorinated dibenzo-furans and dioxins.
