Dioxin: In organic chemistry, dioxins are heterocyclic and aromatic molecules having two oxygen atoms in an aromatic ring. There are essentially two positional isomers:
- 1,2-dioxins where the two oxygen atoms are consecutive (ortho position) which are not very stable because they are close to peroxides.
- 1,4-dioxins where the two oxygen atoms are separated by two carbon atoms (para position).
