Energy value: The energy value of a food is the amount of energy that can be removed from it through digestion. The energy value is expressed in kilojoules (kJ) or kilocalories (kcal or Cal).
To obtain this, we multiply the total amount of energy contained in a food by 85% (losses during human digestion represent 15% of the total value).
