Smilax: The smilax (or sarsaparilla) is a monocotyledonous plant (family of Smilaceae - Botanical name: Smilax lasioneura). Originating from the Mediterranean regions, the young shoots are eaten like asparagus.
The flowers are prepared as a donut and the berries are used to make jam and syrup.
