To raise: v.tr. (word coming from é- and rise).
The verb “raise” has several meanings:
I) Put higher:
1. Putting or carrying higher (hoisting, lifting, lifting).
Quote from the French writer Stendhal (1783-1842): “Twenty heavy hammers are raised by a wheel”.
The priest raises the host (elevation).
To hold high, to erect.
Quote from the French writer Anatole France (1844-1824): “The cypresses raised their black cattails”.
