Observe: verb (word from the Latin observere).
The verb “to observe” has several meanings:
I) To comply regularly with (a prescription) (obey -to-, respect.
- Quotation from the French moralist and essayist Joseph Joubert (1754-1824): “You have to observe certain rules, certain formulas”.
- Quotation from the French writer Pierre Loti (1850-1923): “One of the only customs of Islam which they still faithfully observed”.
To observe an instruction, a watchword.
