Tortoni: Le Tortoni is a café-restaurant-ice-cream parlor, opened in Paris in 1789, at the corner of rue Taitbout and boulevard des Italiens (9th arrondissement), by a Neapolitan named Velloni.The establishment was bought shortly after by his first clerk, Francesco-Severo Lorenzo Tortoni, (1760 - 1818) who gave him his name.Tortoni was the brother-in-law of the painter friend of Stendhal, Baron François Gérard.
