Polyol: nm Polyol is a so-called "filler" sweetener, whose sweetening power is lower than that of sugar. Even if they are poorly absorbed by the digestive tract, polyols are still partly used by the body and therefore provide energy (4 Kcal or 17 per gram). Their use in the food industry (particularly in confectionery) is governed by a European directive, in the same way as all food additives, and product labeling.
