Myristic acid: Myristic acid (or more exactly tetradecanoic acid) is a saturated fatty acid with 14 carbon atoms with the condensed structural formula CH3–(CH2)12–COOH. It is found in particular in copra oil and palm kernel oil, two edible oils particularly rich in lauric acid and myristic acid, the two most cholesterol-lowering saturated fatty acids known.
This myristic acid is also found in the oil obtained from the rhizome of the iris called orris.
