The verb "instruct" has several meanings:

1. Literary: Put in possession of new knowledge (enlighten, edify).
Teach someone by example.
To be educated by experience, misfortune, age.
2. Ordinary meaning: To provide instruction to (a student) (educate, teach, train, initiate).
To instruct a child in a discipline, in science, on a subject.
Educate young soldiers, ...
