The word “agent” has several meanings:
1. The being who acts (opposed to patient, who undergoes the action).
Grammar: Complement of agent: complement of a passive verb, introduced in French by by or by, designating the author of the action.
2. What acts, operates; force, body, substance intervening in the production of certain phenomena (cause, factor, principle).
