Symposium: nm A symposium is the extension of dinner in ancient Greece, during which wine was served accompanied by fresh and dried fruits, cheeses, savory cakes, even candied cicadas, to maintain the taste for drinking.
Women, with the exception of slaves, dancers and courtesans, were excluded from the symposium, which could be the occasion for conversations, even philosophical discussions, as in Plato's Banquet (XNUMXth century BC. .).
More often, it was a question of music, dance or address numbers, while the "symposiates", who arrived late, mingled with diners and emptied a number of cups of wine with them.
