Saxifragaceae: The Saxifragaceae family (or Saxifragaceae) is a family of dicotyledonous plants which includes 600 species in around thirty genera. They are herbaceous plants that are sometimes succulent, annual or perennial, from cold to temperate zones mainly in the northern hemisphere. Plants of diverse appearance, herbaceous or woody, with alternate or opposite leaves, generally without stipules.
The genus Saxifraga is well represented in the flora of the Alps.
