Polyphyletic: adj. “Polyphyletic” is said of a taxon made up of several ancestral populations, in this case it must be divided into as many monophyletic taxa. Indeed, a phylogenic hierarchy can only be established between monophyletic taxa. See Mono-phyletic, Para-phyletic ....
