The word “plane” has several meanings:
1. Common meaning: Carpenter's tool, made up of an oblique metal blade fitted in a barrel which lets the cutting edge protrude, used to flatten or reduce a wooden surface, to make moldings, grooves (various names of planes: bouvet, doucine, feuilleret, gorget, guillaume, jew's harp, riflard, varlope).
