The word “plain” has several meanings:
1. Expanse of flat or slightly undulating country, generally quite vast, and less elevated than the surrounding countries.

Country of plains.
Plain surrounded by mountains forming a depression (basin).
Alluvial plain; erosion plain (also peneplain).
Steppe plain (steppe; pampa), frozen (tundra).
