To peel: v.tr. To "peel" is to rid fruits and vegetables of their inedible parts.
Peeling is not always synonymous with peeling: the lettuce is peeled (but without discarding the ribs, which are very edible), spinach, cabbage and radishes by removing the stems, roots, ribs, withered leaves.
We “shell” the peas; the green beans are “trimmed” and “trimmed”; we "world" tomatoes and almonds.
