Methylene blue: Methylene blue (or methylthioninium chloride) is an organic compound whose name in systematic nomenclature is 3,7-bis-(dimethylamino)phenazathionium. Methylene blue is soluble in water and more slightly in alcohol. It was first synthesized by Heinrich Caro in 1876.
