Lutein: Lutein (from the Latin luteus, yellow) (C40H56O2) is one of the 600 known carotenoids.
It is found in green leafy vegetables (kale, spinach, sorrel), yellow vegetables (corn, carrot). It is also found in egg yolk and edible flowers such as marigold (Tagetes).
Use of lutein:
Antioxidant: Lutein is used by the body as an antioxidant to protect the body from free radicals from ultraviolet radiation.
