Glyceraldehyde: nm Glyceraldehyde, also called glycerose, is a monosaccharide with three carbon atoms (triose), with the structural formula C3H6O3. Moreover, it is an aldose because its carbonyl group is at the end of the carbon chain (aldehyde), which makes it an aldotriose. It is the smallest aldose (*), and therefore the simplest (there is no ose with two carbon atoms). Its ketose isomer is dihydroxyacetone.
