To expire (se): v.pron. (word coming from the legal Latin perimere, properly “to destroy”: peremption)
The verb “to expire” has several meanings:
Right: Said of an instance which is canceled for lack of having been prosecuted before the expiry of the fixed period.
With ellipsis of se: Let an instance expire.
By current extension: To cease to be valid.
Letting an (expired) railway ticket expire....
