The verb “employ” has several meanings:
1. To make serve an end (to make use of, to make use of, to use).
Use a tool, materials, product.
I will use this sum to buy a piano.
This is money well spent, badly spent.
Use all means (resort to).
Use force, gentleness. Use drastic measures.
Employ all one's energy on a task (apply, bring, consecrate; deploy)....
