The word “germ” has several meanings:

1. First rudiment of a living being (gamete; embryo, seed).
The French scientist Louis Pasteur (1822-1895) refuted the theory of spontaneous generation by demonstrating the presence of germs.
2. Embryology: Fertilized egg.

Microbial, pathogenic, infectious germs.
