Woodpeckers: Woodpeckers are a genus of herbaceous plants in the family Asteraceae (formerly family Compositae), subfamily Lactucoidea and tribe Lactuaceae.
Phytonymy: Picride (or picris) comes from the Greek pikros, "bitter", in reference to the bitterness of its edible leaves.
Uses of woodpecker: The young leaves in a rosette of several species are edible raw, but they quickly become tough and are loaded with bitterness, hence their consumption.
