Apple of Cythera: The Cythera apple or Cythera plum (family of Anacardiaceae - Botanical name: Spondias dulcis) is an oval fruit about 7 cm in length, with green skin becoming yellow-orange when fully ripe. Just like the mango, to which this fruit is related, the stone is very adherent to the flesh.
Depending on the country, the Kythera apple or plum tree is also called evi or ambarella or kedondong.
It is a tropical fruit tree, native to Melanesia and Polynesia found in the West Indies. It can reach 10 to 20 meters in height and has deciduous foliage in regions with dry seasons. It gives edible yellow-green fruits, apples or plums of Kythera. The flowers are small and white, and are grouped in panicles.
The Cythere apple can be eaten fresh, in juice, marmalade or canned.
