Crapaudine beet: locut. The beetroot is a variety of red beet that can be cooked over a wood fire. It is twice as sweet as traditional beetroot and its red flesh becomes tender after cooking.
The beetroot is long instead of round and has recently been used in the making of crisps.
The beetroot gets its name from its skin, which resembles that of a toad.
