A zita (or zito) is a large macaroni, but smaller than a cannelloni, stuffed and presented as a unique and decorative garnish for a dish.
The longer ziti (more than 15 cm) are called the zitone.
For a few years, Italian restaurants have been using zitone as straws to serve drinks (fruit juices, cocktails, soda, etc.) to replace plastic straws...
