Torta ahogada (Mexican cuisine): A torta ahogada (literally: drowned cake) is a typical dish from the Mexican state of Jalisco, especially in the city of Guadalajara. Although it is popular in some other parts of Mexico, it is most popular in Guadalajara. It is called "ahogada" (drowned) because the sandwich (submarine sandwich type) is totally or partially immersed in a sauce composed mainly of a dried pepper called chile de árbol.
