Stickleback (fish) : The stickleback (Scientific name: Gasterosteus aculeatus), not to be confused with the stickleback (*), is a small sea fish of the family Gasterosteidae. It is a fish which was very common in the northern hemisphere and which is in the process of regression, without yet being considered as threatened by theIUCN due to good estimated ecological resilience capacities. Small in size and covered with spines, it is not considered a species of fishery or commercial interest, but it has happened that this fish has been included in Scandinavia among the fish processed into fishmeal and fish oil.
(*) Stickleback: Very small fish, similar to the stickleback, but with more spines, without culinary interest.
It is commonly used as a laboratory animal, particularly for behavioral studies.
