Crustaceans: Crustaceans (Scientific name: Crustacea) are a sub-phylum of Arthropods (*). Their name comes from the Latin crustaceus, then from crusta “crust” because of their shell. They live in salt water or in fresh water.
These are animals whose bodies are coated with a chitinoprotein exoskeleton (**) called an exocuticle and often impregnated with calcium carbonate.
