Equil (fish): The equil is a small, silvery saltwater fish, from the Ammodytidae family, very common in the Atlantic, North Sea and English Channel.
The handle measures at most 25 cm long and it is a fish which is caught in the sand, at low tide.
Also called “sandeel” - and marketed as such in Canada - it can only be prepared in deep frying.
