Baerwecke: Baerwecke is an Alsatian word. Beera meaning pear and Wecka meaning cake or bun.
However the Baerwecke (different spellings exist, such as Baerewecke) is not a pear cake, but a traditional dried fruit cake of the Jewish Passover in Alsace, which the Christians of this region have taken for their Christmas celebrations.
