Appam (Indian cuisine): Appam (pronounced: apːam), also called hoppers in English, are kinds of pancakes found in the cuisine of South India. It is called appam in Kerala, aappam in Tamil Nadu, paddu or gulle eriyappa in Kannada, and finally appadam in Telugu.
We find this last etymology in the Indian word papadum: The word "papadam" is derived from the Sanskrit word (*) parpaṭa (पर्पट), which means a flattened disc.
