Millas comes from millet, a seed used before it was succeeded by corn from America. In Occitan, corn often takes the name of millet: milh, hence milhas or milhade. The millas is also called “millassou” (“millassous” or “millassons”). Millassou is preferably applied to the sweet versions (cakes).
