Tortoni cookie (American cuisine): Tortoni cookie is an ice cream made with eggs and heavy cream, usually containing chopped cherries or topped and covered with chopped almonds or crumbled macaroons.
It is believed to be named after an Italian café owner who opened in Paris in 1798, then bought the establishment and renamed it Café Tortoni. It became a very fashionable restaurant and ice cream parlor in the 19th century.
