T'edj (African drink): T'edj, or tedj (daadii in Oromo, mes/ሜሰ in Tigrinya, two languages of local ethnic groups), is an Ethiopian and Eritrean mead flavored with the leaves and buds of gesho (name botany: Ramnus prinoides), a plant used as a hop. T'edj is usually served in a round carafe called a bérélé.
Its mild flavor masks its alcohol content, which varies according to its degree of fermentation.
