Maratheftiko (varietal): Maratheftiko is an old indigenous red grape variety from the island of Cyprus.
History: This variety was mentioned for the first time in 1893 by the ampelographer Pierre Mouillefert. Its name probably comes from the Marathasa Valley in the Troodos Mountains. According to other sources, its name comes from the Greek word for "cotton", in reference to its whitish-green, fleecy leaves.
