Koutoukou: Koutoukou or gbêlê, is a gin produced locally in Côte d'Ivoire. It is also produced in Ghana where it is called “akpeteshie” and in Benin where it is called sodabi.
Koutoukou is obtained by distillation of wine from different palm trees, in particular palm wine from oil palm, raffia and rônier.
In Côte d'Ivoire, this drink was banned in 1964 to fight against clandestine distillation which represented dangers for consumers.
