Baijiu: Baijiu (白酒, morph. "White alcohol") is the designation in China for spirits obtained by distillation of cereal wine, based on sorghum (maotai, erguotou, meiguilu jiu) or more rarely sticky rice, and often mixed with corn, wheat, barley, Tibetan barley or millet.
The Japanese shōchū is related. It is sometimes called maotai abroad, by metonymy (*) with certain sorghum alcohol.
