Abbey beer: Abbey beers are beers that refer to monastic life or to a particular abbey, whether or not it is active.
Sometimes brewed in the past on site by monks, it can also be a license issued to a brewer by a monastic community, or a reference to a disappeared abbey. However, some beers are still brewed within an abbey today. This is the case for the beers produced by Trappist monks.
