Irish whiskey: Irish whiskey is the generic term for the different types of whiskeys made on the island of Ireland. Irish whiskey is a spirit made by distilling cereals, particularly barley, but not only. The legal definition of Irish whiskey was enacted by the Irish Whiskey Act of 10 December 1980, and its protected geographical indication (PGI) came into force on 30 October 2015. The Irish claim to be the inventors of the Irish whiskey.
