Marigold : The marigold (belongs to a species of plants family of Asteraceae - Botanical name: patula tagetes). It is native to tropical regions of the Americas ranging from Mexico to Bolivia. This kind of marigolds is one of those whose flowers are edible, and its taste approaches that of passion fruit. It is used in the soups, compound butters or “flowery butters”, and its petals orange or yellow colors the fruit salads. These coloring properties have earned it the nickname " safran of the poor".
The name "marigold" comes from its resemblance to the common marigold (Dianthus caryophyllus), and the fact that the plant was originally imported from the West Indies, when they were part of what was called the "West Indies".
It is also called "maregold" or "bonanza".
